Your home is most probably your most valuable asset and doing regular minor home improvements will contribute to the value of your asset. A home improvement painting project can be one of the easiest and most effective home maintenance jobs you can do around the house. We’ll give you some tips to help you speed up the process of your home improvement painting
Tips for Home Improvement Painting
Painting projects conjure up an image of a piece of wood being stirred in the buckets of the colors you’ve selected, and your arm getting tired from all the effort. In fact, you don’t need to waste your energy mixing the paint by hand and you can save your energy for the actual painting project. Just cut a plastic clothes hanger into a long J shape and attach it to your drill for a quick mix up. This will save you time and effortl with your home improvement painting.
In the past, after I dipped my paint brush into the can I would scrape my brush against the top of the can to get off the excess paint. You’ll save time with your home improvement painting if you just slap your brush against the sides of the paint can instead. This will keep more paint on the brush and you’ll cover more of an area between dips. This is a great tip to remember when you have to step up and down to get to the paint can!
When doing any home improvement painting keep in mind that more than 890,000 children in the United States have lead levels in their bodies that are high enough to affect their ability to learn. A major cause of this is their exposure to deteriorating lead-based paint in the home. So, when you choose your paint for your home improvement painting, make sure that it is lead free.
I know someone who put up this great looking painted fence only to find out that the local building codes required something different, and they had to redo all the work. Make sure you check with your local building authorities to find out what the fence height can be, where one can be located, the style of fence that has to be used and the materials that are regulated. This is imperative if you live in a heritage area of a major city.
Another handy tip when painting a fence is to create your own bevel topped fence post. Using a radial arm saw, set it at forty-five degrees and pull the saw firmly towards you. Then rotate the post until you have beveled each side of it. Then your fence will be ready for painting and you’ll have saved quite a bit of money with your home improvement painting.
