Cleaning Hardwood Floors … removing small scratches

No matter how careful you are about caring for and cleaning hardwood floors you will often still get small scratches.

If you find a scratch on your hardwood floor you first need to determine if the scratch is on the surface or if it has gone into the wood. Many surface scratches can be removed by using a gentle wood floor cleaner. Rub the cleaner into the scratch and buff it with a clean, dry cloth.

Many hardwood floors have a urethane finish. If this finish has been scratched the urethane finish can be repaired with a urethane touch-up kit available from the hardware store.

Worn areas and scratches in waxed timber floors can often be repaired by applying a little wax with fine steel wool. Rub in the wax in the direction of the grain and blend it with the surrounding floor. Clean the floor and buff with a clean, dry cloth.
